How to Estimate Your Blood Alcohol Concentration

Blood Alcohol TestsIf you were arrested for DUI in Las Vegas and are curious about your blood-alcohol level when driving, you can very roughly calculate your blood-alcohol level using formulas and calculators which assume average absorption and elimination of alcohol — an assumption which is almost certain to be inaccurate. The only variables these formulas and calculators use is consumption of alcohol (amount and times), weight and sex, and the results are highly unreliable and, at best, only a very rough indicator. The simple fact is that the human body and its metabolism of alcohol varies widely from one person to another, and within one person from moment to moment. With that in mind, the following online tables and calculators may be of interest to someone facing drunk driving charges in Las Vegas:

"Police Notebook" BAC Calculator
Online breath-alcohol concentration computer from the University of Oklahoma Police Department.

Online Conversion
Calculator which factors ounces of alcohol consumed, percent alcohol in drinks, weight of drinker and hours spent drinking.

WebMD
Discussion of the metabolism of alcohol by the body, its effects and blood alcohol testing.

Keep in mind also that the blood-alcohol level at the time of the blood or breath test is not the issue: It is not against Nevada DUI law to have a blood-alcohol level higher than .08% when tested — only when driving. This means that the Las Vegas prosecutor must establish what your blood-alcohol level was at the time of driving — not what it was when you were tested an hour or so later.
